New BBQ Restaurant Pig Bleecker Opens Today in Greenwich Village
It seems everyone is trying to make 2017 a better year than 2016 and chef/pitmaster Matt Abdoo is no exception. Abdoo, pitmaster at Pig Beach and a former Del Posto chef, is opening Pig Bleecker today in Greenwich village.
Pig Bleecker (155 Bleecker St., NY, NY) has the honor of being 2017's first new BBQ restaurant. Now, to be fair, this is not a traditional BBQ joint and caters to a more upscale crowd, with wait service and an eye for fine-dining touches. Main menu items include brisket ravioli, burgers, fried whole chicken, pigs in a blanket, seared fish, duck confit lasagna, and meatballs. Sides include cheesy grits, fries, smashed potatoes, and greens. There's also a full cocktail menu.
I haven't had the chance to try anything from Pig Bleecker yet, but I have high hopes based on Abdoo's experience with Pig Beach in Gowanus. Pig Beach opened to harsh reviews in 2015 and I credit Abdoo for improving the barbecue to a considerable degree in 2016. Pig Beach also has one of the best, if not the best, outdoor BBQ space in the entirety of NYC.
The official site for Pig Bleecker is not totally up yet (I mean, they did open today), but you can make reservations on it. That said, only limited spots are open, so if you want to go this week or next, be prepared to go outside of peak hours.
Feel free to leave any feedback on Pig Bleecker under this post, and in the near future, I will visit and share my thoughts.
