The 11th annual Pig Island NYC event is back on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Staten Island’s Snug Harbor Cultural Center. This year’s edition will be socially distanced and set up “picnic style” on Snug Harbor’s 84-acre lands. Groups are strongly encouraged to bring blankets so they can set up in pods away from others while still enjoying delicious food and drinks.
More than 20 chefs and pitmasters will be cooking whole hogs and other pork-based treats from Flying Pigs Farm in upstate New York. Chefs and pitmasters will include Tank Jackson of Charleston’s Holy City Hogs, Matthew Worgul of Gentle Giant Barbecue, Mario Chape of Big Papa Smokem, Leland Avellino of Avellino Family Barbecue, Jase Franklyn of Jase BBQ, Trevor Kunk of The Little Beet, and Mike Lapi, a chef, farmer, and butchering instructor at SUNY Cobleskill. There will be beer from Staten Island’s Flagship Brewery, cider, spirits, and delicious side dishes like Geechie Boy grits with shrimp.
This all-you-can-eat event is always a good time and will be again this year. Read the full preview of Pig Island NYC 2020 here.
Safety Guidelines: In addition to having more space, the event will limit the number of guests at the event. Once inside, there will be three separate areas to enjoy food and drink, allowing for greater social distancing. Hand sanitizing and hand washing stations will be accessible and guests will be required to wear masks except when sitting down to eat. Food stations will be spaced out and if there are lines, people will stay 6 feet apart. When you’ve gotten your food and are ready to eat - everyone can bring their own blankets to spread out and enjoy a beautiful day outside. Plus, wristbands will allow guests to wander Snug Harbor’s grounds and re-enter when they want to.
There are 3 tiers of tickets: General Admission, VIP Pitmasters Breakfast, and VIP Private Table and Tent.
